The Apu Trilogy, the negatives of which were damaged in a fire in 1993, will be released across the US in May.The trailer of the film has been released by Criterion Collection, an American video- distribution company that initiated the restoration of the damaged film. President of the Criterion Collection, Peter Becker told The American Bazaar, “There’s a lot of discussion about how much irreplaceable film history we have lost from around the world, but this is one of the rare cases where the dedicated work of archivists have saved three masterpieces, allowing a whole new generation of filmgoers to see them as their filmmaker intended. ”The Apu trilogy, which includes Pather Panchali (Song of the Little Road), Aparajito (The Unvanquished) and Apur Sansar (The World of Apu), is based on two books by Bibhutibhusan Banerjee.
