The News Minute | November 10, 2014 | 05:20 pm ISTThe Advocate, an American magazine that caters to the LGBT community, has named Russian President Vladimir Putin as its Person of the Year. A report published on The Advocate's website states 'Driving the governmental, religious, and popular disdain for gays and lesbians, the Russian president became the single greatest threat to LGBTs in the world in 2014.'Jeremy Lybarger, the author of the piece, writes about Putin's 'crusade against LGBT Russians' and states 'Since winning a third term in 2012, Putin has become ever more autocratic, and his antigay ideology ever more extreme'.Several publications have reported on The Advocate's take and Vox writes 'So he's the Advocate's person of the year in sort of the same way that Adolf Hitler was Time magazine's person of the year in 1938.''Nearly three-quarters of Russians believe that homosexually is morally unacceptable, more than disapprove of other hot-button issues such as extramarital affairs, gambling and abortion', states a February 2014 report on Live Science titled Why Russia Is So Anti-Gay.
