Xiaomi has unveiled two smartphones for the Indian market: Redmi Y3 and Redmi 7. These are budget segments phones prices around Rs 10,000. This could be seen as Xiaomi’s attempt to maintain a stronghold over the market just above the entry level.

The key specifications of the two devices are as follows:

The Xiaomi Redmi Y3 is the successor to the Y2 but the company claims there have been changes and improvements made in different areas. The phone sports an IPS LCD display of 6.26 inches and the screen resolution reads 720x1520 pixels. The aspect ratio of the display is 19:9 and the screen gets protection from Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Xiaomi calls this the Aura Design.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 636SoC will be the processor and the phone can be purchased in 2 RAM variants, 3GB and 4GB and the corresponding internal storage will be 32GB and 64GB respectively. The latest Android Pie will be the OS with the MIUI 9 skin. Xiaomi is betting a lot on the optics capabilities of the phones launched today. The Redmi Y3 for instance, has a massive 32MP selfie camera in the front while the rear setup has a dual 12MP+2MP sensors combination. There is a whole lot of software support including AI Beautify for the selfie camera and the rear ones too have appropriate support to make the photography experience immersive for the users.

A 4000mAh battery and the 3.5mm audio jack complete the key specs of this Xiaomi Redmi Y3 smartphone. Elegant Blue, Bold Red, and Prime Black are the three colours in which the phone is released.

Coming to the other device, the Xiaomi Redmi 7, this too has a predecessor, the Redmi 6 and the company says like the Redmi Y3, the Redmi 7 finds a number of changes incorporated over the Redmi 6. While this phone has almost identical specs as the Redmi Y3 above, the processor is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632SoC. There will be two RAM variants 2GB and 3GB with the internal storage the same at 32GB.

On the camera front, the rear dual setup of 12MP+2MP has been retained but the selfie camera in the front is just 8MP. Lunar Red, Comet Blue, and Eclipse Black are the three colours here.     

Now the pricing of these two phones: At the launch event today, Xiaomi has said the Redmi Y3 smartphones will be sold at Rs 9,999 for the 3GB+32GB variant and Rs 11,999 for the 4GB+64GB variant.

The Redmi 7 will be priced lower than these; the 2GB+32GB will sell at Rs 7,999 and the 3GB+32GB at Rs 8,999.

The Redmi 7 phone goes on sale on April 29 and the Redmi Y3 on April 30. The phones can be bought online on Mi.com and Amazon as well as the Mi Stores.
