In a bid to lure more paying customers, telecom operator Reliance Jio has made a slew of announcements offering cashback offers for customers.
Termed the ‘Surprise cashback’ offer, Jio is offering Rs 400 cashback for every recharge of Rs 399. This amount will be credited to the customer’s MyJio account as cashback. In addition to this, Rs 300 will be offered in the form instant cashback vouchers on wallets and Rs 2,600 can be availed through discounts being offered by various e-commerce associates who have signed up with Reliance Jio. When combined, the total cashback benefits a customer gets on getting his or her phone recharged for Rs 399 would be amount to Rs 3,300.
This cashback offer is available for a limited period between December 26 and January 15, 2018. The customers will continue to enjoy the basic advantages of free unlimited calls and SMSs and access to Jio apps.
There are also other plans like the Rs 199 and Rs 299 with equivalent benefits, but the overall benefits for those paying Rs 399 and above remain the highest.
When Jio commercially launched operations last year, with unlimited free calls and internet too, free for the initial months. It then launched plans of Rs 399 and Rs 499.
These fiercely competitive plans caused disruption in the telecom industry causing the incumbents to struggle to catch up and launch similar offers.
It even sparked consolidation where global telecom giant Vodafone announced a merger with Aditya Birla-owned Idea.
In fact Vodafone also announced on Tuesday that it will be launching VoLTE services in Mumbai, Gujarat, Delhi, Karnataka and Kolkata, starting January 2018 to take on Jio. It has already conducted trials of the technology in these circles.
And following the announcement of Jio’s Surprise cashback offer, Vodafone India launched a recharge plan of Rs 198 offering 1GB per day for a validity period of 28 days on 4G and 3G networks. The plan also includes unlimited local, STD and roaming calls, besides 100 SMS per day within India for the plan period.
