If you thought Flipkart and Amazon compete fiercely in the ecommerce marketplace, it seems like this competition is witnessed in areas such as campus recruitment as well. As the premier higher education institutions in the country gear up for the first level campus placement interviews in August, reports suggest that the top 2 online retailers are set to grab the best talents coming out of these institutions

Some of the significant takeaways from these reports from different quarters as well as the statements emerging out of both Amazon and Flipkart are that both companies are quite upbeat about the campus recruitments and hope to appoint more freshers this year than the last year

The major disciplines they are looking at are artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), internet of things (IoT) and big data

Some of the other institutes the two are scouting talent include the National Institute of Fashion Technology, National Institute of Design and even the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) Delhi.

The new factor to have entered the equation this year is Walmart, which is in the process of taking over Flipkart. Those in charge of the placement cells, both from the management and the students, are expecting that Flipkart may end up recruiting more this year than Amazon, and Walmart has already pumped in the funds to add this manpower.

The general consensus appears to be that many students may prefer to go to Flipkart just to enjoy more freedom of choice in terms of the functions to be handled and the scope to learn more than they can expect in Amazon.

If one goes by the packages offered by Amazon last year, however, Amazon appears to have made appointments with annual packages of around Rs 30 lakh while Flipkart offered around Rs 21 lakh.

The apex institutions of learning in India follow separate calendars for campus placement interviews starting with August and going till December.

While Amazon and Flipkart and many other top corporates place a lot of faith in hiring from the colleges, they also follow a program of internship where the students are allowed to work in their companies in their last year of studies and it gives the students and the companies a better understanding of each other before the final placement/offer is made.

The established institutes like the IIMs in Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Bangalore are the last ones to hold campus placement, in December. Trust Amazon and Flipkart to be there to continue their rivalry, this time picking up the best talent on offer.
