Airtel is giving Reliance a bit of its own medicine by throwing open unlimited broadband plans at competitive tariffs. The service provider has rebranded its broadband service as Xstream Fiber. Existing customers with data capped plans can avail the unlimited plans by paying an additional ₹299 per month. For example, the company’s basic broadband plan is charged at ₹799 per month at which the customer enjoys 150GB at 100Mbps speed. By topping this up with ₹299, the customer can enjoy unlimited data usage at the same speed. More importantly, the company is providing them with the Airtel Xstream OTT facility free of charge. This will enable them to watch the regular content on the app on your TV.

At the next level, which Airtel calls Entertainment plan, where you have taken a 300GB at 200Mbps, priced at ₹999, the same ₹299 additional payment gets you unlimited data, plus one year’s Amazon Prime and 3-months Netflix subscription plus Zee5 Premium on the Airtel Xstream free.

The same goes for the Premium and VIP plans as well.

There is no change in the connecting speeds in each of these plans. The only difference that Airtel has brought about is that the carryover of data from one month to the next stands scrapped. This is a logical step since the plan itself allows for unlimited use of data and so the customer need not worry about the unused data. Those customers who wish to continue with their existing plans and take the unlimited plans by paying ₹299 can do so.

Jio Fiber from Reliance has a basic plan of ₹699 in which the company offers 100Mbps speed and 100GB data to start with. There is a top-up facility within the My Jio app. Reliance is yet to distribute the setup box which it had indicated will be part of the plan. The company is possibly testing the devices before delivering to the customers.
