As battleground Andhra Pradesh heats up ahead of the 2019 Assembly and General elections, there are allegations and counter allegations of ‘unholy’ alliances and ‘hidden agendas’. Now, YSRCP leader and MLA Roja has denied the TDP’s charge that that Jagan Mohan Reddy’s party has teamed up with the BJP, and is singing to the national party’s tunes in the state.

Speaking to media persons, Roja said, "Now, Chandrababu Naidu’s situation has become so bad, that he claims whatever he does is good, and whatever others do is bad. He stayed in power for five years (in alliance with the BJP), but did not ask them anything. But when Jagan asked for an all-party delegation to Delhi in the Assembly, he called Jagan a ‘politically immature kid.’”

“It’s shameful to now say that Jagan has partnered with the BJP,” Roja said.

Roja’s comment comes as the ruling TDP in the state – a former ally of the BJP – alleged that senior BJP leader Ram Madhav held a secret meeting with YSRCP MLA Buggana Rajendranath Reddy in Delhi to conspire against the TDP.

Rajendranath Reddy is the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), and Chandrababu Naidu said, “How can YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy allow his party MLA to meet BJP general secretary (Ram Madhav) a day after the Centre filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, stating that setting up of a steel plant in Kadapa district was not viable? Instead of speaking up for the steel plant and other issues of the AP State Reorganisation Act, how can you resort to collusion politics?”

However, Rajendranath Reddy denied any collusion, and said it was a casual meeting.

Roja meanwhile accused Naidu of being an opportunist. “He will go with the TRS if he likes, he will go with the BJP if he likes, he will go and hug Rahul Gandhi in Karnataka and none of this is considered wrong by his channels. But if anyone from other parties meets or smiles at other leaders in the airport or Andhra Bhavan, it’s immediately portrayed as if we have joined with the BJP,” she said.

Another YSRCP MLA, G Sreekanth Reddy, also hit back at the TDP, and said that YSRCP was a secular party.

“We have never had an alliance with any party in the past. In 2014, Chandrababu Naidu said we were with the Congress, since he was against them at that time. Now, he is spreading lies that we are with the BJP since his relationship with the BJP has soured,” Sreekanth Reddy alleged.

“We are very clear – ours is a secular party and we will carry forward the ideals of our late leader YS Rajasekhar Reddy. TDP is trying to snatch away our Muslim and Dalit vote bank from us,” he added.

TDP meanwhile is sticking to its allegation. Senior party leader and MLA Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary said, “The YSRCP and BJP have an understanding. They are planning to create religious tensions in the state. They’ve compromised with the BJP due to cases (against Jagan).”
