A YSR Congress leader and his aide were brutally hacked to death by members of a rival faction at Ramakrishnapuram in Krishnagiri mandal of Kurnool district on Sunday, as per a report in The Hindu.

Cherukulapadu Narayana Reddy was in charge of the party’s Pathikonda constituency.

After being hit by a tractor from behind, Narayana Reddy’s car swerved off the road near a culvert.

Following this, around 20 to 25 members of the rival group hurled bombs, and attacked him and his aide Sambasivudu, with knives and sickles.

While Narayana Reddy died on the spot, his aide who tried to flee, was hacked to death about 500 metres away, the report says.

Following marriage functions at Nandyal and Veldurthi, the YSRC leader was on his way back to Krishnagiri when the incident took place.

In the 2014 elections, Narayana Reddy had contested unsuccessfully against Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishnamurthy as Congress candidate from the Pathikonda constituency and later joined YSR Congress.

Some time ago, the rival group had attacked his house in Cherukulapadu village and damaged vehicles on the premises.

He was also acquitted by a court in the case involving murder of Kappatralla Venkatappaiah Naidu a few years ago, the report adds.

Narayana Reddy had in fact alleged a threat to his life and urged the state government to provide protection. He had also deposited his revolver with the police for renewal of its licence.

Kurnool SP A Ravikrishna said three teams have been constituted to catch the culprits.

A sniffer dog and Clues team have also been pressed into service.
