The Yash starrer KGF is gearing up for a massive release in five languages. According to trade reports, the film is likely to be out in 1,800 to 2,000 screens in all the five languages – Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi – put together across India. The Kannada version alone will be out in 350 theatres, we hear. The film will release on December 20 in the US and Canada, and on December 21 in India.

The mega budget movie is being distributed by some of the most high-profile distributors in the film industry. In Tamil, the distribution rights have been lapped up by Vishal’s Vishal Film Factory and the Malayalam version will be distributed by Global United Media. The Hindi version will be distributed by Farhan Akthar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment jointly with Anil Thadani’s AA Films. In Hindi, KGF will be screened in around 1,000 theatres while in Tamil it will be screened in 150 and Malayalam in 75. The Telugu version is expected to be shown in 350 theatres in AP and Telangana.

KGF is directed by Prashanth Neel, who has also written the story, screenplay and dialogues. Vijay Kiragandur is bankrolling the project under his banner Hombale Films. The film has Yash playing the lead role with Srinidhi Shetty as the heroine. The rest of the star cast includes Achyuth Kumar, Nassar, Malavika Avinash, Anant Nag and Vasishta N Simha. The film is narrated by Anant Nag.

From the two trailers released so far, one can gauge that KGF, set in the 1970s, is a violent film about greed and power. As the title suggests, KGF is set in the Kolar Gold Mines, the largest gold mining reserve in the country at the time, and is about the struggles of the labourers living and working in the mine.

The technical team comprises music director Ravi Basrur, cinematographer Bhuvan Gowda and art director Shivakumar.

A few days ago, it was announced that KGF was certified UA. Reports say that no cuts were advocated, which came as a big relief for the filmmakers.
