Xiaomi has revealed its smart display, XiaoAI Touchscreen Pro 8, in the Chinese market. The device works on Xiaomi’s digital voice assistant XiaoAI. The smart display has an 8-inch display and functions very similar to the Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub.
It is Xiaomi’s direct challenge to the well-established players. The new device has just been introduced in China and the company is bound to launch in the other markets as well. Of particular interest will be how the smart display fares against Amazon and Google in the US market since that it where Echo Show and Nest Hub enjoy a substantial market.
The key features of this new XiaoAI Touchscreen Pro 8 are its 8-inch colour display, as indicated above. There are three sub-woofers and in China it is released with built-in support for OTT platforms like Youku, Douyin and iQiyi. An additional feature is a camera that will enable the users to make video calls or receive them.
The interactive smart display can provide you with instant replies to your queries; it can play music, video or other contents that can be accessed through the internet. It can also control the smart devices in your home/office like the lights and other connected gadgets.
Buyers in India will be keen to know if Xiaomi is launching the XiaoAI Touchscreen Pro 8 in the Indian market and if yes, when. This is unclear as of now.
However, one can hope that Xiaomi will not overlook a market like India. After all, the Chinese giant is already the largest seller of mobile phones in the Indian market and is the leader in another segment, smart TVs. It will want to capitalize on its brand equity. The only issue with the voice assistants is their capability to understand the different dialects and English accents. Samsung’s Bixby had suffered a great deal on this account earlier.
On the price of the XiaoAI Touchscreen Pro 8, its fixed at CNY499 which roughly converts to Rs 5,058 in Indian currency.
