If you were wondering how Xiaomi managed to capture the leadership position in the Indian market, you don’t have to go far. Take a look at the latest smartphone they have launched the Redmi 8. The device, with a 6.2-inch display, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage and a 5000mAh battery is just priced at Rs 7,999.

Coming to the specifications of the Xiaomi Redmi 8, it has a 6.2inch IPS LCD HD display with the rear panel given a glossy finish. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The processor fitted on this new Redmi device is the octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 439SoC that clocks a decent speed of 1.95GHz. As mentioned, RAM is issued in two variants, 3GB and 4GB and the corresponding storage 32GB and 64GB respectively. There is the dedicated microSD card slot for expanding the storage up to 256GB. The Android Pie version 9 will be the OS.

When it comes to the camera section, the Redmi 8 has a dual camera setup in the rear comprising a 12MP Sony IMX363 primary sensor and a dedicated 2MP depth sensor. For taking selfies, the front camera features an 8MP shooter with AI Portrait mode. AI has been added to almost all other aspects of the optics department to ensure the photography experience is good. The smartphone comes with 5000mAh battery, which the company claims will last two days. This is supported with 18W fast charging. The charger included in the pack will be 10W.

There’s the fingerprint sensor placed on the rear for convenient security and AI face unlock on the front screen is also supported. The other feature is the P2i splash proof support.  

As mentioned, Xiaomi has priced this Redmi 8 smartphone at just Rs 7,999. But that is for the first five million customers who will buy the 4GB+64GB version. After that the price will be Rs 8,999. The price of Rs 7,999 will apply to the lower 3GB+32GB variant alone.

Xiaomi says it is giving this Rs 1,000 off as part of its celebrating 5 years in India and having sold over 100 million phones in the Indian market.
