M Jayamma, a sitting judge from the Khammam district court in Telangana passed away on Monday morning. Several reports suggest the judge passed away after suffering from dengue for the past four days. The Khammam judge was undergoing treatment for Dengue at a corporate hospital in Hyderabad.

Jayamma was admitted to the hospital in Hyderabad on October 19 and passed away sometime after 2 am on Monday. She is survived by her husband and two sons.

She had earlier served as Principal Junior Civil Judge at Sattenapalli in Guntur District and was transferred to the Khammam district court as the second Additional Junior Civil Judge in December, after the Andhra Pradesh High Court bifurcation.

From January until the end of September, the state had recorded over 4,500 cases of dengue, according to the states public health department reported The Mint.

DS Lokesh Kumar the commissioner for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) pegged the number of cases at 1,043 in Hyderabad alone. The state government has vehemently denied any dengue-related deaths in the state in September. The state had even gagged private hospitals in the state claiming they are not allowed to declare dengue cases on their own. The state government insists that dengue cases tested in state labs and identified positive can only be declared as dengue cases.

In October the GHMC commissioner claimed that the number of cases of dengue had dropped, crediting the municipalities anti-mosquito larva drive and the rains as the reason for the drop in dengue cases this month.

After hearing reports of Jayamma's demise advocates of Khammam, Kothagudem, Bhadrachalam, Yellandu. Manugur, Sattupalli and Madhira towns boycotted courts on Monday, reported TNIE. They also held a condolence meeting at the court premises.
