Businessman and wilful defaulter Vijay Mallya has hit out at the CBI and SEBI, accusing them of a ‘witch hunt’ against him.

In a series of tweets, he lashed out at CBI for alleging diversion of funds out of Kingfisher, and SEBI for alleging diversion of funds out of USL into Kingfisher.

Calling it a ‘joke,’ the beleaguered liquor baron wrote, “I am kind of getting used to these witch hunts coming from all directions with no legal basis whatsoever. Shows what Govt Machinery can do.”

“Allegations of fund diversion out of USL are baseless. USL accounts were approved by top Auditors, an eminent Board of Directors n shareholders,” he added.

He also said, “For 30 years I built the World’s largest Spirits Company n India's largest Brewing Company. Also launched the finest Airline. This is what I get.”

On Monday, the CBI raided the offices of Mallya’s UB Group in connection with a money laundering case.

These raids come after the Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT), Karnataka, told the SBI-led consortium of banks to recover over Rs 6,000 crore of loans from Mallya, Kingfisher Airlines and associated companies in the Supreme Court.

Mallya has been in the UK since March 2016 and his passport was suspended by the External Affairs Ministry in April last year. India had asked for his deportation but the UK government declined and said it will assist with his extradition.
