A new commercial by Ufone, a cellular service provider in Pakistan, has not only gone viral, but is also being appreciated by social media users for being out of the box and witty. Starring actors Sanam Saeed, of the popular Pakistani TV show "Zindagi Gulzar Hai" which hit Indian television screens last year, and Mikaal Zulfiqar, the TV commercial (TVC) clearly seems to have struck a chord with the audience. Though the TVC is about a particular plan provided by the service provider, it seems to have connected with the viewers of the country on a different level altogether. Saeed's character doesn't just thrash her husband in the advertisement, but also attempts to break certain stereotypes the country is grappling with. What begins on the lines of a seemingly regular narrative, takes a startling turn and leaves the viewer giggling. "It's a welcome change from every other commercial, in which a trophy wife is frying endless pakoras for her husband dearest and actually shown to be enjoying it," states a report by Dawn, a Pakistani media organisation. "We don't have our own Vogue empowerment ads," it further reads, "but this one hints at the same subject matter - women shouldn't be afraid to take matters into their own hands."Needless to say, apart from the compliments pouring in, the Ufone TVC has been shared close to 6,000 times on just Facebook.
