Shriya Sharma, who was seen as a child artiste in several films, will be making her debut with the Tamil film Varma, say sources.

The shooting of this Tamil remake of the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy began some months ago with Dhruv Vikram playing the lead. Veteran actor Vikram’s son, Dhruv will be making his acting debut with this flick.

The shooting began with director Bala canning important portions with Dhruv. However, there is no news till date about who the heroine of the film is. While Shalini Pandey played the woman lead in the original version, there were speculations that she may be roped in for the Tamil version as well. However, with reports surfacing that it will be Shriya Sharma, we have to wait for an official word on this.

Bala is wielding the megaphone for this venture with Mukesh Mehta producing it under his banner E4 Entertainments. The shooting for this film began in Kathmandu, Nepal in March this year and was stalled following the Tamil film industry strike. It later resumed after the strike was called off in April. The crew recently wrapped up a schedule in Chennai.

Arjun Reddy, written and directed by Sandeep Vanga, was bankrolled by Pranay Reddy Vanga under the banner Bhadrakali Pictures. It was made on a budget of Rs 5 crore and went on to collect Rs 50 crore at the box office. The film had Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey as the lead pair. Vijay went on to win the Best Actor – Telugu at the 65th Filmfare Award South for his role in the film.

Expectations are high on Varma as it marks the debut of Vikram’s son Dhruv and the film is directed by Bala, his first attempt at a remake. Varma is touted to hit the silver screens later this year.
