The News Minute | January 5, 2015 | 1:05 pm ISTThe argument has been going on for decades.
First, it was over yesteryear actors MGR and Shivaji. For the next generation, it became the ever-unresolved contention over who was better - Rajini or Kamal. The trend has continued, in Tamil Nadu with the younger generation (the youth) bickering over who is better amongst the current top stars of Kollywood - Ajith and Vijay. While fan clubs continue on with the age-old trend, these actors themselves have never really fought, some of them even maintaining good friendships with co-stars. Fan clubs are not unpopular in this part of India. With both actors having a huge fan following, it is but natural for some friction between them. Over the last few days, after the trailer release of Ajith’s next film Yennai Arindhaal , social media has seen renewed arguments between these two camps, with the kind of language being used reaching an abysmal low. With hashtags such as #GetWellSoonMentalAjithFans trending on twitter, RJ Balaji a well-known radio jockey who speaks out on a number of issues, spoke out in a public message to Tamil audiences on their behaviour online. In a heartfelt message, Balaji spoke out on the growing trend of abusive language used by fans on social media under the confident cloak of anonymity. Debate, but avoid using bad language and involving one’s families in arguments, he said in his souncloud audio message. While fans continue to stick by their respective heroes, calling it ‘a small effort to unite Ajith and Vijay fans’, a video has been created showing both actors commending each other.
