Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut has hit back at Sonam Kapoor for her remark at an event in Bengaluru where the latter said, “It is difficult to take Kangana seriously,” when she was asked about the charges of sexual harassment against filmmaker Vikas Bahl.

“So Sonam Kapoor has the license of trusting some women and some she won’t. What makes her unsure of my claims? I’m not known because of my dad, I earned my credibility after struggling for a decade (sic),” Kangana said, speaking to ANI.

At We The Women Asia event curated by journalist Barkha Dutt in Bengaluru on Sunday, Sonam Kapoor was asked whether anyone from the industry will speak up against Vikas Bahl, who is a prominent filmmaker.

“I think Kangana spoke up about him. Kangana, obviously, is Kangana Ranaut and she says a lot of stuff and sometimes it’s hard to take her seriously, but I love the fact that she has spunk and she says what she believes and I really respect her for that. I don’t know him (Vikas Bahl), I don’t know the situation but if what is written is true, it’s disgusting. It’s awful. And if it is true they should absolutely be punished for it,” Sonam said.

An article by HuffPost India spoke about the charges against Vikas Bahl, who has been accused of sexually assaulting a female crew member during the promotional tour of Bombay Velvet. Shortly after the article was published, Kangana Ranaut too spoke out and accused the Queen director of misconduct on the sets of the 2014 film.

“This whole thing that has happened at Phantom, I find it disgusting. I read that article and it was disgusting. It’s gut-wrenching,” Sonam said of the charges.

Sonam also questioned the silence and the diplomacy of those who remained silent even after they were asked pointed questions over the allegations levelled by Tanushree Dutta against Nana Patekar.

“I believe if someone asks you a question directly and you are diplomatic about it, I find it so cowardly… people at press conferences are not giving an answer when they are asked, and they have the power to move things,” Sonam added.
