Weapons were seized from Kochi’s Maharaja’s College hostel in a raid conducted by the central police on Wednesday.

The weapons seized included machetes, iron rods and wooden sticks.

Police have filed a case under the Arms Act. According to reports, college principal NL Beena filed a complaint following which the raid was conducted.

But the students believe that the entire drama was staged.

The hostel was closed on March 30 and the students alleged that the raid and the recovery were suspicious as those who reside on the premises are faculty members and they might have planted it to defame he students, reports The Times of India

The students also said that the rooms were checked even after the closure of the hostel and nothing suspicious was found at that time.

“The college hostel was termed as unfit by the Public Works Department in a meeting of the District Collector. Following that some rooms of the staff quarters were converted as hostel rooms and the seizure was made from there. We are also examining the students’ allegation that it was staged,” said Central Station Station House Officer Joseph Sajan.

“The raid was conducted on a tip-off and also based on the complaint of the principal,” he added.

In January this year, some of the college students affiliated to the Students Federation of India, who don’t have a cordial relation with the principal, had burnt her chair.
