Malayalam actor Dileep’s arrest for his alleged involvement in the abduction and rape of a fellow actor has been met with disbelief from some quarters, and quiet acceptance from others. But the family of the survivor herself say they are in shock. While there has been talk of Dileep’s involvement in the case for quite a while now, according to a close friend of the actor, they did not want to believe in the rumours.
Speaking to TNM, a friend of the survivor said that the family was in shock since Dileep was a close friend of the actor, and they hoped that he wouldn’t be involved in a criminal conspiracy of this nature.
“There is a sense of disbelief in the family,” the friend tells TNM.
“They can’t believe that he did this. Dileep and the survivor have acted in many movies together, and were close friends. In fact, she’s also friends with his wife Kavya, and his ex-wife Manju. I spoke to her close family member, and that person told me that though the media was discussing it, they were not sure about it. They knew that someone was involved, but in spite of everything, they didn't believe it,” she says.
“We all thought - or hoped - that this was a story that was being spun by someone. We’re in shock and don’t know how to react,” she says.
Meanwhile, Malayalam Manorama spoke to the survivor’s brother, who told the publication that he does not want to react on the arrest. The family also told the media that they were thankful to the police and relieved that the truth had emerged.
