After heavy rainfall hit Hyderabad on Thursday morning, several parts of the city witnessed severe water logging, making it difficult for commuters to travel on the road.
According to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) official, places like Amberpet, Begum Bazaar, Balkampet, Ameerpet, Tarnaka, Begumpet, Nampally, Dilsukh Nagar, LB Nagar, Punjagutta, Secunderabad were severely affected by the heavy downpour.
“GHMC has constituted teams to take care of these area, the vehicles have been sent to these places to clear the water logging from the road,” GHMC ACP, Suresh told TNM.
The heavy rain was followed by traffic jams in several areas that were inundated.
“From morning 8 to 12 in the noon, there was heavy traffic in several parts of the city, due to the rain and water logging. However, now the congestion is comparatively less as traffic has been restored. Some of the places like Panjagutta, Paradise, Malakpet, Ameerpet is still witnessing heavy traffic due to construction work,” said M Narsing Rao, Traffic Inspector in control room.
The officer also said that in several places the traffic police took active part, along with GHMC workers, in restoring order on the roads.
“Some of the traffic policemen called the GHMC and helped the workers in clearing water from the roads so as to ease the traffic congestion,” the Inspector added.

According to the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) mostly, the north and the central parts of the city were most affected by the rains and witnessed power cut for more than an hour.
“Secunderabad, Jubilee Hills and Banjara hills were most affected, as there was power breakdown due to the heavy rain on Thursday morning. However, power has been restored in those areas,” Anand, Superintendent of Engineer of TSSPDCL told TNM.

According to the Hans India, the rainfall was due to the intense activity of the Southwest Monsoon. Hyderabad and the surrounding cities are likely to experience heavy rains for the next few days.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning that until June 10 heavy rainfall and thunderstorm accompanied by gusty wind is likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts of Telangana.
