Tirumurthy, hailing from Nochipatti village in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district, least expected to become a viral sensation when he sang one of his favourite songs for a video recording. A soulful rendition of the popular Tamil song, ‘Kannane Kanne’ from Ajith-Nayanthara’s Viswasam, by the young, visually impaired man has garnered more than 4 lakh views. The video, which went viral, even gained Thirumurthy a ticket to playback singing in films.

A video of Tirumurthy singing ‘Kannane Kanne’, dressed in a simple white t-shirt, was shared online by Madhan, an ardent Ajith fan. According to Madhan, Tirumurthy lost his mother at a very young age. He had not received any training in music, yet everyone in his village loves his singing.

Tirmurthy’s rendition of the song was quick to win hearts on the internet. As the video started doing the rounds, it even caught the attention of music composer D Imman, the man who composed ‘Kannane Kanne’. The composer shared that he was mighty impressed with Tirumurthy’s version and expressed his desire to work with the aspiring singer and to reach out to him.

Fans immediately sprung into action, sharing more information about Tirumurthy and eventually getting his number for the music director. Less than two hours later, the music composer shared on Twitter that he was able to talk to Tirumurthy and that he would soon rope him in for a song.

‘Kannana Kanne’ was composed by Imman for Ajith’s Viswasam, which was released for Pongal this year. The original, sung by Sid Sriram, is a father-daughter bonding number that accompanies a series of montages showing Ajith spending time with his on-screen daughter in the film.

This exhibit of rare talent and the music director’s heartfelt gesture, too, is being widely appreciated on Twitter.

Imman, who has composed for films like Kumki, Kadaikutty Singam and Kennedy Club, is not the only music director to be impressed by a viral video of aspiring singers singing their rendition of famous songs.

In November last year, music director AR Rahman was bowled over by a middle-aged woman named Baby, whose flawless rendition of the song 'O Cheliya' from the Telugu film Premikudu, starring Prabhudeva and Nagma, went viral on the internet. Baby, who hails from Vadisaleru village in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, was given an opportunity by Koteswarao Rao soon after the clip went viral.

Earlier, in July 2018, when Rakesh Unni, a daily-wage labourer from Kerala, sang ‘Unai kaanadhu naan indru naal illaye’ from Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam, little did he know that the video would catapult him to national fame. The list of people who called Rakesh includes singer Shankar Mahadevan (who sang the original), actor Kamal Haasan, singer Pandalam Balan, late violinist-musician Balabhaskar, music composers Gopi Sunder and Gibran.
