The makers of the Telugu film George Reddy released its official trailer on Monday. The movie, starring Sandeep Madhav, is a biopic based on the life and struggles of yesteryear Osmania University student leader George Reddy.

George was a founding member of the Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU). In 1972, he was murdered by a gang which was allegedly backed by a Right wing organisation. George was a boxer and a gold medalist in Physics, who was also deeply influenced by the writings of Left philosophy. He was known to have worked for students coming from rural and marginalised sections.

The trailer depicts George's politics that once shook the university. At that time, George was hailed as Hyderabad's Che Guevara.

"Privatisation is taking over, poor staying poor and rich becoming richer. Being against this, we have raised our voice to protest, but our protest has remained unheard" - it is this dialogue, from one of George's speeches, that opens the trailer.

The trailer further shows a brawl in a dining hall, the speech of a Right wing student leader in which he utters "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and also portrays the once fierce political landscape of Osmania University.

The film is being directed by Jeevan Reddy, who co-directed Dalam with Ram Gopal Varma. Sandeep Madhav earlier acted in the lead role of Vangaveeti, a Ram Gopal Varma film based on the life of Vangaveeti Ranga.
