The teaser of Ambili, Soubin Shahir’s next after Virus, was released on Friday. The one and a half minute long teaser doesn’t reveal the plot of the film but rather has an adorable Soubin dancing happily to the tunes of a peppy number. This is the actor’s second film after Sudani from Nigeria where he is playing the central protagonist.

The teaser begins with one of the men in a village crowd assuring everyone that there is nothing Ambili (played by Soubin) cannot do. He then asks everybody to clap their hands as we see Ambili, wearing a blue sweater and a monkey cap, smiling shyly and walking to the front, cheered by the crowd.

However it takes only the blink of an eye for Ambili to turn into an insanely fun dancer. Dancing to a peppy tune by Vishnu Vijay, Ambili dances like there is no tomorrow, as the crowd keeps looking at him in bewilderment. His energy is so contagious that the crowd, old and young alike, begins to shake a leg along with Ambili in no time. Like the song says, he isn’t Michael Jackson or Newton but Ambili is clearly the star of the village!

Ambili is John Paul George’s second film after the 2016 movie Guppy, which had Tovino Thomas playing the lead. Presented by E4 Entertainment in association with AVA productions,Ambili also has Naveen Nazim, brother of actor Nazriya Nazim, and Tanvi Ram playing important roles.  The film has been reportedly shot in the locales of Idukki, Bengaluru, Rann of Kutch, Goa, Rajasthan and Ladakh.

Soubin was last seen in Virus and this year’s critically acclaimed movie Kumbalangi Nights. Soubin also has more projects waiting for him - Android Kunjappan ver. 5.25 which is helmed by debutant Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval, and Kalidas Jayaram’s Jack n Jill directed by veteran filmmaker and cinematographer Santosh Sivan
