Watch: 'Pariyerum Perumal' trailer promises an intense drama

Pa Ranjith's production will hit screens on Friday, September 28.

The official trailer of Pariyerum Perumal, Mari Selvaraj’s directorial debut, was released on Tuesday. Ever since the film’s teaser was released in June this year, the expectation for its release has been high.

Produced by director Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Productions, the film’s trailer begins with a hushed version of a song recited by a child. A hushed warning ‘Karuppiya Kaanom!’ (Karuppi is missing!) and then the trailer begins rolling.

We’re shown the relationship that Karuppi, the dog, and Pariyerum Perumal (played by Kathir) share. Then there’s a glimpse of the romance between Perumal and the female lead played by Anandhi.

The trailer also shows Perumal’s changing demeanour as he gets into fights and is later being chased. This trailer too, like the teaser, ends with a reference to Perumal’s ambitions - Pariyerum Perumal, BA BL Bar.

The film’s single ‘Karuppi’, the teaser and the trailer have all hinted that the dog plays a major role in this film. We are also shown that the film will have a strong political discourse.

After 12 years in the industry, Pariyerum Perumal is Mari Selvaraj’s first directorial break. The director comes with a strong literary background, having authored a Tamil short story titled Thaamirabharniyil Kollapadathavargal (Those who weren't killed in Thamirabharani) and a fiction series in Ananda Vikatan called Marakave Ninaikeren (I hope to forget).

Earlier, in an interview with TNM, the director had shared that he decided upon the film’s title long back.  “We consider Pariyerum Perumal to be a source of motivation. There are many in my family who are named Pariyerum Perumal, as in my village. I’ve always felt it’s a forceful name. So I had decided much earlier that if I ever make a film, the hero would be called Pariyerum Perumal – and then I decided to keep it as the title as well since the story of the film is a biography,” he said.

Pariyerum Perumal’s music has been composed by Santhost Narayanan. The film has Sridhar cranking the camera and Selva RK editing it. The film will hit screens on Friday, September 28.
