The official teaser of Moothon (meaning elder brother in Malayalam), Geethu Mohandas’s second film after Liar’s Dice that released in 2014, is out. Moothon is Geethu’s feature film debut in Malayalam.

The clip that is one minute and 30 seconds long begins with a voice-over that narrates the story of a man, a migrant.

“Long ago, countless years ago, a swine came here from the island. I saw him struggling here doing all kinds of odd jobs. His body was covered with scars. When fortune turned a blind eye to him, he started whatever he could to survive. The cops would nab him from time to time. When finally he came to me a defeated man. I finished him off myself,” goes the deep voice, and then we finally get to see Nivin Pauly’s face smeared with a yellowish, dry paste.

The film that has some of the big names associated with it is based on Geethu’s award-winning story ‘Insha’ Allah’. It's the story of a man who makes a treacherous journey from the Lakshadweep Islands in the Arabian Sea to the Indian mainland, in search of his older brother. Moothon received the Global Filmmaking Award for story in the Sundance film festival 2016.

Speaking about his role in the film, Nivin, in an interview to the IANS had said, “The language part is always challenging. For a Malayali actor, it won't be that comfortable to do a film in Tamil, Telugu or Hindi. I believe we should push ourselves by crossing boundaries. I think every actor should attempt that in their career. There is one blessed career that God gave us and we shouldn't be sitting in one place and getting comfortable. There is no harm in trying something new.”

The film, which will be releasing in Malayalam and Hindi, also stars Shashank Arora, Sobhita Dhulipala, Roshan Mathew, Dileesh Pothan, Harish Khanna, Sujith Shankar and Melissa Raju Thomas. The film’s Hindi dialogues have been penned by director Anurag Kashyap and the Malayalam dialogues are by Sreeja Sreedharan.

Produced by Anurag Kashyap, Vinod Kumar, Ajay G Rai and Alan McAlex, the film’s cinematography has been done by Rajeev Ravi, who is also married to Geethu.
