The teaser of Yatra, biopic on the life of the late Andhra Chief Minister YS Rajashekhar Reddy, was released by its makers on Friday. Mammootty, who plays YSR, has impressed the viewers in portraying the leader, who was undoubtedly one of the most popular political personalities down south.

The one minute long teaser begins with visuals of a state that is plagued in agrarian crisis. YSR emerges as a leader who carefully listens to the woes of the farmers and embarks on his Padyatra, which was a turning point not only in his political career but also in the Andhra politics.

Mammootty, though not entirely new to Tollywood, has grabbed eyeballs in carefully imitating the mannerisms of YSR. Wearing a white sports shoe and clad in a white shirt and dhoti throughout the trailer, Mammootty is in top form and has given a powerful slice- of-life performance.

The trailer has simultaneously released in Malayalam, owing the actor’s huge fan base in the state, and Mammootty has dubbed for the film in both the languages.

“We are taking the events from 2003 to the padayatra. It is structured as a road film. If you look at the character, in 2003, YSR was facing a now or never moment. Had he lost that election, no one would have known YSR much. He had 30 years of political experience but had to come out with something new, which he did in the form of a padayatra. Structurally, we see the event as a pivotal happening. The story ends with him finishing the Yatra,” Mahi V Raghav, director of the biopic, had told TNM in an interview earlier.

The film is being produced jointly by Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devi under the banner of 70MM Entertainments. It has Suhasini Mani Ratnam and Jagapathi Babu in pivotal roles. The technical crew of the film includes K for composing the tunes, Sathyan Sooryan for a camera and A Sreekar Prasad for editing. The movie will be released simultaneously both in Telugu and Tamil.
