Maari 2 director Balaji Mohan released the making video of the popular song ‘Rowdy Baby’ from the film on Saturday. The director speaks about the song and the efforts which went into making it. The song was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, and sung by Dhanush and Dhee, the sister of composer Santhosh Narayanan. It was choreographed by Prabhu Deva. Dhanush penned the lyrics for the song as well.

“Both Sai Pallavi and Dhanush are excellent dancers. I had the confidence that they would be able to match what Prabhu Deva choreographed,” Balaji says in the video.

Balaji Mohan took to twitter to announce the release of the making video. “Making Video of #RowdyBaby @dhanushkraja @thisisysr @PDdancing @Sai_Pallavi92 @AlwaysJani @omdop @amaranart @editor_prasanna @vasukibhaskar @VfxBricks @vinod_offl @divomovies #Maari2,” he tweeted along with a link to the video.

The video song was released on YouTube on January 2 and was met with many accolades with several praising Sai Pallavi for her dance moves. It set a new record with 100 million views in just 16 days, replacing Ram Charan’s ‘Rangamma Mangamma’ from Rangasthalam which had reached 100 million views in 142 days. The song also went on to reach a total of 17.9 crore views (179 million) crossing the number of views of the hit song ‘Kolaveri Di’ from Dhanush’s film3.

Maari 2is a sequel to the 2015 film Maari and featured Dhanush and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles. Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas was seen portraying a negative role in the film. The film released on December 21 to much hype; however, it did not meet expectations, with several critics slamming it.

Dhanush’s character Maari, who was portrayed as a character with grey shades, instead of a traditional hero role, was lauded in the first film. However, many felt that there was a drift from his role in the sequel. Sai Pallavi, who makes her second appearance on the silver screens in Tamil cinema, assays the role of Aarathu Anandi, an auto driver.
