A short clip that shows what went into the making of the ‘Marana Mass’ song from Petta, hours before its official release, was put up on Twitter by the film’s producer, Sun Pictures.

The 40-second video from the upcoming Rajinikanth film has been shot inside a recording studio and begins with Anirudh Ravichander, Petta’s music composer, counting down to the beats. What follows is an assortment of percussion instruments being played by young musicians inside the studio. The arrangement has the parai, big drums and other percussion instruments that come in different shapes and sizes.

The video ends with the team laughing together when Anirudh remarks that nobody would have recorded a song like this thus far. This sneak-peek video promises for a peppy dance number in the film.

The makers had announced earlier that the first-single ‘Marana Mass’ from Petta would be released at 6 pm on Monday. This song has been rendered by SP Balasubramaniyam with lyrics penned by Vivek. This song, which would be Rajinikanth’s introduction song, marks his reunion with the singer after four years. Their combination was last seen in Lingaa that came out in 2014.

The Rajinikanth-SPB combination is the most popular intro-song combination in Tamil cinema. The singer has given a good number of well-known introduction songs for the star - 'Ballelakka' from Sivaji, 'En Peru Padayappa' from Padayappa, 'Oruvan Oruvan Mudhalali' from Muthu, to name a few.

Petta marks the first time collaboration between Anirudh and Rajinikanth. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film has a stellar cast with actors like Simran, Bobby Simha, Vijay Sethupathi, Trisha, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Megha Akash to name a few.

This gangster action film has Tirru cranking the camera and Vivek Harshan is in charge of the editing. The rest of the technical crew include Peter Hein for stunt choreography, Suresh Selvarajan for production designing, Kunal Rajan as sound designer, Niharika Khan, Praveen Raja as costume designers, and Baba Bhaskar and Sheriff for dance choreography. The film has been scheduled for Pongal 2019.
