The trailer of Dhanush’s second film with director Balaji Mohan, Maari 2, was released on Wednesday. Starring Dhanush, Sai Pallavi, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Tovino Thomas in the lead, the film is the sequel to the 2015 gangster comedy, Maari.

The trailer tells us that Maari (Dhanush) has been missing for 8 years, eluding both the police and rowdies. Right from the beginning, Maari’s invincibility is made obvious.

We also learn from the trailer that Arathu Anandhi (Sai Pallavi), who is an auto driver, harbours love for Maari and as the trailer progresses we can see that the two get married. Tovino’s character, Beeja, comes with a mysterious background theme.

“I’m the God of death, Maari defies death. We’re worthy opponents,” “You don’t know about me Maari. I’m a very bad man.”, “If you are bad, I’m your dad” are some of the dialogues that we are privy to in this trailer and this hints that one can surely expect more such “punches” in the film.

Maari’s popular dialogue ‘Senjiruven’ can be heard in this trailer as well. Produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films Private Limited, Maari 2 cinematography is by Om Prakash, editing by GK Prasanna, costume design by Vasuki Bhaskar and the music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

'Rowdy Baby’, a dance number from the film, has created a good buzz around it. This song has been choreographed by Prabhu Deva and promises to be a very peppy dance number. The video is a slideshow of pictures that show Dhanush and Sai Pallavi dancing.

Maari 2 will be dubbed and released in Telugu simultaneously. On Tuesday, the makers revealed that Maari 2 will hit the screens worldwide on December 21 and the announcement was made via a special poster. The film will now slug it out with Vijay Sethupathi’s Seethakathi, Jayam Ravi’s Adanga Maru and Vishnu Vishal’s Silukkuvarupatti Singam at the box-office on December 21.
