The trailer of Queen starring Ramya Krishnan was released on Thursday. The promo of the web series, which is based on the life of the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, was released on December 5, coinciding with her death anniversary.

The trailer shows glimpses of how the series will chronicle the life of Jayalalithaa, right from when she was a girl to her becoming a superstar and a legacy politician.

Interestingly, it does not refer to Ramya’s character as Jayalalithaa.

The trailer begins with a TV show host describing 'Shakthi Seshadri' thus: "My guest tonight is from the southern state of Tamil Nadu. But she is a very big Indian celebrity. Very few people know what goes on in her head and her heart. I am extremely pleased to be here with the intelligent, the fearless, the very beautiful, Shakthi Seshadri.”

The show appears to be similar to Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, in which Jayalalithaa had appeared as a guest. The episode had revealed a rare side to the politician.

Ramya’s character, clearly modelled on Jayalalithaa, is called Shakthi Seshadri in the web series. Even the character which seems to be based on MGR has been called GMR (Indrajith) in the series. The younger versions of Jayalalithaa are played by different actors.

As per earlier reports, the web series will incorporate the real life story of the former Chief Minister, but will have a fictional aspect to it as well.

The series has been co-directed by Prasath Murugesan who is well-known for his directorial Kidari which starred Sasi Kumar and Nikhila Vimal. While Prasath has directed the portions showing Shakthi’s childhood, her adult life has been directed by Gautham Menon.

Queen will stream on MX Player on December 14, and its first season will have 11 episodes.
