It is all very familiar - the faces of a crowd appearing to enjoy the rituals of a wedding, until the ‘thaali’ is tied and the gates to the feast are open.

It is this scene that the teaser of the new Fahadh Faasil movie Njan Prakashan, directed by Sathyan Anthikad, begins with. Fahadh is among this crowd that rushes to get a seat in the first round of feasts. He hurriedly gulps morsels of it until the mandatory video shooting of the guests eating meals happens and then he makes a pretense of slow-eating, table manners and all. Something Malayalis can easily relate to and enjoy, it happens in every big wedding in Kerala.

And just like Malayalis do after the feasting, Fahadh’s character complains about the food not being good enough once he has had a hearty meal. It appears that Prakashan, the title character that  Fahadh plays, is a commoner, with the obvious stereotypical flaws of a Malayali. And Fahadh, who has shown a certain knack to pull off such commoner characters, appears to work his magic again in the short teaser. And from the rest of the teaser, he also appears to be running into trouble quite often. Something about the character reminds you of Fahadh’s last movie with Sathyan Anthikad, Oru Indian Pranayakadha - the mannerisms, the accent and everything.

The film brings together Sathyan Anthikad and actor-writer Sreenivasan after a long time. Movies that Sreenivasan writes and Sathyan directs have always worked wonders among the Malayali audience - movies like SandeshamSanmanassullavarkku SamadanamThalayanamanthramNadodikaattuGandhinagar Second Street and so on. But the last they wrote and directed together is 16 years ago, for the movie Yathrakkarude Shraddakku. So Njan Prakashan is a much anticipated film, and the teaser too shows a glimpse of stories of ordinary people that the duo is known for.
