The excitement surrounding director Prem Kumar’s 96 that reached cult status as soon as it released has not subsided nearly two months after it hit the screens. An exclusive deleted scene from the movie was uploaded on Youtube on Tuesday, unleashing a whole flurry of reactions that have flooded the internet.

The 4.36-second clip explains the photo that Trisha shared with singer Janaki on her Instagram page in April this year.

The video shows Ram and Janu getting invited into singer Janaki amma’s house. In the film, this scene would’ve come before Janu finally surprises Ram by singing ‘Yamunai Aatrile' in his apartment.

In this deleted scene, Ram is heard complaining to Janaki amma that Janu only sings her songs and never anyone else's. “I like ‘Yamunai Aatrile’ song but she doesn’t sing because it’s not yours,” he says while Janaki amma is seen laughing.

She then chides her saying, “If there’s a beautiful song, and you like it, you should sing!” Janu and Janaki amma then go on to sing one of her songs, ‘Poomalaye Thol Serava’ from Pagal Nilavu. This encounter explains why Janu finally decides to let go of ‘I’ll sing only Janaki amma’s songs’ resolution.

Set partly in the 1990s, 96 has been directed by Prem Kumar, the cinematographer of the hit movie Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom.

The film has been bankrolled by Nandagopal under his banner Madras Enterprises. The star cast of 96, besides Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha, also includes Varsha Bollamma, Aadithya Baaskar, Gouri G Kishan, Devadarshini, Janagaraj and Bagavathi Perumal in supporting roles. The film’s music is composed by Govind Vasantha with N Shanmuga Sundaram cranking the camera and Govindraj editing it.

96 is all set to be remade in Telugu and its rights have been bagged by Dil Raju. Sources in the know say that Nani may be reprising the role done by Vijay Sethupathi in the Tamil version.
