There are many good things said about music – how it heals, how it brings people together, how it traverses boundaries. But what is music to those who cannot hear?

Coke Studio Pakistan asked itself the same question. There are nine million people in Pakistan who are hearing impaired and they can do everything that you can, except in sign language.

Many of them even enjoy music, just not in the way we imagine.

One deaf woman says that she danced a lot at her brother’s wedding and even though she could not hear anything, she loved it. A man talks about how he enjoys the vibrations of a drum. A woman says that she loves watching music videos with her mother.

Coke Studio Pakistan went a step further when they found that light and vibrations can be used to enhance how deaf persons experience music.

On D-day, a group of deaf men and women arrived in a customized setup and what happened next will bring smiles to your face. Watch it here.

The most endearing part of the video? The surprise, joy and excitement on the faces of this group as they feel the vibration of the sound through their seats, the beat with the rhythmic lights above them and watch the singers being projected on a big screen, is something to behold.

Just goes on to reinforce how music is much more than hearing; it’s an experience.
