Amala Paul, who was last seen playing a teacher in the Tamil thriller Raatsasan, has quite a few interesting projects in the making this year. The teaser of her upcoming Aadai proves this.

The teaser begins with a worried mother informing the police that her daughter is missing, to which the cop ironically responds, “You could have searched for another day, no? You’ve come straight to the station as soon as you heard that your daughter’s missing?” The mother then informs the cop that her daughter was drunk when she spoke to her last on the phone.

“Freedom is about what you do with what’s been done to you” – Jean Paul Sartre’s quote flashes on the screen next and our interest is piqued.

In several clips, the teaser shows people looking up at a high-rise building. The building seems to house an empty office and while the police officers search for the woman, there is blood on the floor.

The background solo’s lyrics too lead into the mystery we see on screen: “Are you a rainbow? Colour seeking white flower? Are you an object to be looked upon?”

At this point, Amala Paul’s character wakes up, without clothes, shocked, confused and scared. The film’s title Aadai flashes on the screen, with Arrogant, Audacious and Artistic written beneath it.

The film by Rathna Kumar of Meyaadha Maan fame was recently certified A. Reports say that the film is based on some real life investigative cases. A press release from its makers pointed out: “Aadai will depict these realities. The role that Amala Paul is essaying demands a lot of physical and mental strength… this role will be a game-changer in her career.”

Written and directed by Rathna Kumar, the film’s cinematography is handled by Vijay Karthik Kannan. The film’s music is composed by singer Pradeep Kumar’s band Oorga. The film is produced by Viji Subramanian and expected to release next month.
