The makers of Lakshmi’s NTR, Ram Gopal Varma’s biopic on the life of NT Rama Rao, released the trailer of the film on Thursday. The trailer, released after a bout of controversies, has portrayed Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu as a clear antagonist in the story.

The trailer is high on drama and betrayal and portrays the life of the politician after his controversial marriage to Lakshmi Parvathy. This is a segment that the NTR biopic, directed by Krish and starring Balakrishna, had left out in their film.

In Lakshmi’s NTR, the lead actor P Vijay Kumar has managed to strike an uncanny resemblance to NTR, not just in his attire but also his physical appearance and mannerisms. The trailer begins with a distressed looking NTR being approached by a woman, who touches his feet and introduces herself as Lakshmi Parvathy, played by Yagna Shetty.

RGV has also incorporated characters from NTR’s family who strongly disapprove of his relationship with Lakshmi Parvathy and, later, their marriage.

Meanwhile, the character of Chandrababu Naidu is introduced to the viewers as an obedient nephew to NTR, who cringes later when NTR introduces Lakshmi Parvathy as his official biographer. The trailer establishes him as an antagonist right away, who ultimately goes on to betray NTR.

The trailer is strong on dialogues where Tharak Ponnapa as Naidu and Vijay Kumar as NTR are shown engaging in a war of words. NTR accuses Naidu of not only turning the entire party against him and his wife but he also accuses Naidu of making his family wary of Lakshmi Parvathy helming the Telugu Desam Party. RGV has also recreated the infamous Viceroy Hotel incident, where NTR and Lakshmi Parvathy were thrown stones at by the public after NTR’s visit from the US.

The trailer ends with NTR collapsing on a sofa, with background chants of ‘Rama Rama’.

The trailer of the movie has been released after courting multiple controversies. The TDP had accused RGV of defaming Naidu through the movie. Varma had further challenged Krish and makers of the NTR biopic to portray truth in their movie.

While the release date of Lakshmi’s NTR is not yet out, NTR Mahanayakudu, the second part of Krish’s NTR biopic, is slated for release on February 22. Interestingly, the theatrical trailer of Lakshmi’s NTR will be played after NTR Mahanayakudu.
