For the past few days, the Facebook Live video of a couple having sex has been circulating on social media. Though reports claimed that they streamed the act intentionally, the woman in the video has come forward to file a complaint in Adimali police station of Idukki disctrict on Friday.
The woman, an employee in a textile showroom, has alleged that she was not aware that the man was live streaming the sexual act and that he'd "raped" her on the promise of marriage. On the basis of the complaint, the police has arrested Linu, 23, a worker at a hotel in Nedungadam, on Friday and he has been remanded to judicial custody on Saturday.
According to police sources, the woman is married to another man and has a child. She has been in a relationship with Linu for the last few months. The police has also not eliminated the possibility of revenge porn in the case.
Speaking to TNM, Adimali Circle Inspector K Sabu said, “He (Linu) said that he did it to get more Likes on Facebook. But there is a chance that this is revenge porn. He might have done it to take revenge on her when they fought. She knew that he was recording the act but did not know that he was broadcasting it."

The visuals show the couple in the nude and indulging in intimate acts. However, it does not appear that the sex was forced. Although the complaint includes rape, the police say that the charge may not hold as the visuals do not corroborate it.
Meanwhile, the woman's twin sister has also approached the police, alleging that the video had caused humiliation to her. She has asked that the video be removed from social media platforms at the earliest.
“She had come to the station crying and requesting that the video is removed from all platforms. Though she did not give a complaint, we will do our best to get it deleted,” the officer said.
The police added that Linu’s phone contained many more private visuals of the couple which they had shot earlier: “They had shot such videos earlier also, so there should be a reason why he did a Live. We will question him more after getting him in police custody."
