One of the biggest blockbusters in Vishal’s filmography is his 2005 film Sandakozhi, which gave his career a huge boost and also helped its director Linguswamy to leave a mark in the commercial league.

Thirteen years later, its sequel is on the brink of completion and the makers revealed on Monday that the film will hit screens worldwide on October 18. Vishal, who is also the producer of the film, took to Twitter to share the news: “Yes, finally got the approval fm #TFPC. #Sandakozhi 2 N #Pandemkodi 2 all set for a grand worldwide release simultaneously in both languages on #Oct18th. Pooja holidays. Single track soon (sic).”

The project also holds a special place in the actor’s heart as it marks the 25th film of his career. The film marks the first time collaboration of Vishal and Keerthy Suresh. While Manjima Mohan was the original choice for the leading lady, Linguswamy eventually roped in Keerthy.

Raj Kiran, who played a crucial role in the first part, has been retained in the sequel. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar plays another important role. It is being rumoured that she plays the film’s antagonist. However, neither the makers nor Varalaxmi have verified these reports. Meera Jasmine, who played the leading lady in the first part, plays a cameo in this film, which will have a simultaneous dubbed release.

The film is jointly produced by Vishal’s banner, Vishal Film Factory, and PEN India. Yuvan Shankar Raja has been roped in to compose music.

Fresh off the success of techno thriller Irumbu Thirai, Vishal will soon commence work on the Tamil remake of Temper. After that, Vishal might start work on Thupparivaalan 2, a sequel to his latest film Thupparivaalan, a Sherlock Holmes-style detective drama. In the film, he plays a hot-headed detective called Kaniyan Poogundran and Prasanna played his partner called Mano, modelled after Dr Watson.
