A 16-year-old boy from Tirukazhukundram in Kanchipuram district entered a classroom on Thursday and stabbed a teacher for taking revenge for being expelled from school in March.

The teacher, P Poonkodi, (28), was taken to the Chengalpet Government Hospital and treated for a deep cut to the forehead, reported The Times of India. "The teacher has been admitted to hospital. She needs to undergo some minor procedure in left eyebrow. I was told that she may get discharged in a day or two," the official said, reported DNA.

The students in the classroom raised an alarm and staff members managed to catch the boy who was trying to flee. The incident happened around 10:30 am at the Little Jacky Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Sogandi in Kanchipuram district.

The Tirukazhukundram police were called and and the boy was handed over to the police.

ToI reported that Tirukazhukundram police detained the juvenile and registered a case under IPC sections 294 (obscene acts or speech in public), 324 (causing hurt with a weapon) and 506 (II) (punishment for criminal inti midation); and under Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act (prevention of harassment of women). After which the boy was sent to a correctional facility in Chengalpet. 

In March, the boy who hails from Singaperumal Koil near Maraimalai Nagar was given a transfer certificate and was asked to join another school because of his disobedience and poor academic performance in Class IX. A police officer told ToI that the boy wanted to take revenge against two teachers. He attacked the teacher with a penknife in his shirt. However, DNA reported that the boy used a sickle to attack the teacher.

On September 26, 2017, the head of the Department of Journalism and Science Communication, Madurai Kamaraj University was attacked by a former guest lecturer at the department. S Jenefa was stabbed multiple times in her office by Jothimurugan after she refused to renew his tenure in the department.
