The posters from the sets of Saamy Square have been leaked online and with it the storyline as well. A glimpse at the posters revealed that the film will be a war between Aarusamy’s son, played by Vikram and Perumal Pichai’s son Ravana Pichai played by Bobby Simha. It may be mentioned that in the prequel, Aarusamy brings down the corrupt Perumal Pichai played by veteran actor Kota Srinivasa Rao and it looks like the revenge drama continues between the sons of Aarusamy and Perumal Pichai. The sequel is set 29 years later and it is believed that Vikram might be essaying dual roles in it. The film also has OAK Sundar playing Mahendra Pichai and John Vijay as Devendra Pichai. The star cast includes Prabhu, Soori and Uma Riyaz in pivotal roles as well.

Directed by Hari, who had wielded the megaphone for Saamy, the sequel will have Keerthy Suresh pairing up with Vikram. Devi Sri Prasad is composing music for this flick. Priyan was initially roped in to crank the camera but following his sudden death, the mantle has been handed over to A Venkatesh. VT Vijayan is in charge of the film’s editing. Bankrolled by Shibu Thameens under his banner Thameen’s Films, Saamy Square is expected to hit the silver screens in April next year.

The sequel was supposed to be made much earlier but things somehow didn't fall in place. During the audio launch of Irumugan, he confirmed Saamy 2 will be bigger, both in terms of scale and budget. The film will see Vikram returning as a foul-mouthed, angry cop, a role that catapulted him to stardom.

Released in 2003, Saamy, written and directed by Hari, starred Vikram and Trisha as the lead pair with Vivek as the comedian. Produced by K Balachander and Pushpa Kandaswamy under the banner Kavithayala Productions, the film was made on a budget of Rs. 5 crores and collected Rs. 31 crores at the box office worldwide. Harris Jaayraj had composed music for Saamy.
