A Vijayawada court has reportedly ordered the city police to register an FIR and arrest director Ram Gopal Varma and producer Kiran Kumar with respect to a case filed against their movie, Vangaveeti, the Times of India reported.

Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, son of late Congress MLA Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga, had moved the court, to take legal action against the film maker.

The Hindu reported that the Satyanarayanapuram Police filed a case against RGV and three others, under Section 156 Clause (3), based on the orders of the First Metropolitan Court Magistrate.

Vangaveeti was said to be the biopic of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga, a leader of the Congress party, who belonged to the Kapu community, and was murdered in 1988 when he was on a hunger strike.

The murder set off unprecedented violence in Vijayawada and other parts of the Krishna district as well as neighbouring ones.

The violence abated after then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NT Rama Rao made his Telugu Desam Party(TDP) legislator Devineni 'Nehru' Rajasekhar surrender. Then Home Minister Kodela Sivaprasada Rao also had to resign.

The film was facing controversy from the date of its announcement.

Ranga's followers suspected that RGV has portrayed their leader in a bad light. They also raised objections to using his surname for the film.

Ahead of the film’s release, Varma met with Ranga’s family, including Radha Krishna, and also clarified that the film was not against any caste and that apprehensions of violence were unfounded.

Despite this, the family of the late leader moved the court.

This is not the only thing in the film, that led to RGV ‘offending’ sentiments.

Ayyappa devotees from Hyderabad also filed a complaint against him at Kushaiguda, alleging defamation in the film.

Since a rowdy character wearing the Ayyappa Mala was shown as a murderer and an assassin, the devotees alleged that it was against the rigorous deeksha of Lord Ayyappa.
