Reports say that the Vijay starrer Mersal will be dubbed in Mandarin and released in China. HGC Entertainment is planning to release the film throughout China later this year or early next. On planning to release Mersal in China, HGC’s President Li Ying is reported to have said: “We found the story of Mersal to be a particularly touching story.”

There is a good market for Indian films in China and Mersal is certain to cash in on it. Incidentally, Indian movies such as Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Dangal and Baahubali were released in China. The distribution house HGC happens to be one of China's oldest indie distributors and have released Dhoom 3, The Mechanic and Hellboy 3 in the past. Mersal was screened at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival this year which was held between July 12th and 22nd. It was one of the three south Indian films to be chosen for the fest with the other two being the Malayalam movie Ezra and Telugu flick Jai Lava Kusa.

Directed by Atlee, Mersal had Vijay doing three different roles. Paired with him in the film were Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nithya Menen. In the supporting cast were S. J. Surya, Vadivelu and Sathyaraj. AR Rahman had composed music for this venture with G. K. Vishnu doing the cinematography and Ruben editing it.

The film was produced under the banner Thenandal Studio Limited by N. Ramasamy, Hema Rukmani, R. Mahendran and H. Murali on a budget of Rs. 120 crores. Mersal was the biggest hit in Vijay’s career. It went on to collect Rs, 250 crores at the end of the five weeks at the box office. With the film set for release in China, its box office collections will go up even further.

Vijay is currently busy shooting for his next upcoming political action-thriller Sarkar helmed by A.R.Murugadoss and bankrolled by Sun Pictures.Following the commercial success of Thuppakki and Kaththi, actor Vijay and filmmaker A.R Murugadoss have teamed up for the third time. A.R Rahman has been officially signed to compose music for the project, which will mark his reunion with Murugadoss after the Hindi version of Ghajini. Girish Gangadharan, the young lensman whose recent work includes Kali and Solo, is doing the cinematography. National award-winning editor Sreekar Prasad, who has worked with Murugadoss in projects such as Thuppakki and Spyder, is also part of the film.
