Tollywood actor Vijay Devarakonda, who auctioned his first Filmfare award, donated the proceeds to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund on Friday.

The award, which was bagged by the actor for his much-acclaimed movie Arjun Reddy, was brought by Shakuntala Divi of Divi Labs for Rs 25 lakh last week. Vijay and his family met KT Rama Rao at the CM’s camp office in Begumpet on Friday and handed over the cheque worth the same amount.

Accepting the cheque from the actor, the Minister for Urban Development and Administration KT Rama Rao gifted the actor a small sapling and requested him to participate in the Jalayagnam and Harithaharam programmes conducted by the government.

He also asked the actor to take part in digging water harvesting pits as part of the Jala Jeevam program.

The actor is said to have replied in the affirmative, and said he would take part in one programme in the state’s efforts to build a greener planet.

Praising the actor’s efforts, the minister of IT tweeted from his official handle.

Vijay – who also launched his new brand of apparel, Rowdy Wear, recently – reportedly apprised the minister of the Rowdy Club mobile application. KTR requested him that all clothes under the brand be manufactured in Telangana only, in collaboration with the cloth manufactures of Gundalapochampally Apparel Park.

Rowdy Wear, Vijay’s dream project, was launched on 15 July and became an instant hit with fashionistas, its app seeing the maximum number of downloads in 24 hours.

KT Rama Rao last month had paid a courtesy visit to Vijay Devarakonda’s home after he officially announced the auction of his Filmfare award on Twitter.

“I follow KTR a lot, and he has released money from the CMRF to help many people, so I wanted to auction my award and donate the money towards it,” the actor reportedly said.
