Actor-composer Vijay Antony has pinned high hopes on his next release Kolaigaran, a crime-thriller which also stars Arjun Sarja in a crucial role. Directed by Andrew Louis, the film’s makers had made plans to release it in the third or final week of May. However, the makers on Friday announced that Kolaigaran will finally release on June 5 and they will hope to cash in on the long Ramzan weekend. The reason for opting out of a May release is back-to-back releases of biggies such as Vishal’s Ayogya and Sivakarthikeyan’s Mr. Local. It would have been suicidal to release alongside Ayogya or Mr. Local as there would be a dearth of screens, more so because Avengers: Endgame and Kanchana 3 are still doing extremely well and running to packed houses.
Kolaigaran is said to be a cat-and-mouse thriller that pits a police officer and a serial killer played by Arjun and Vijay Antony respectively. The industry grapevine is that the film is loosely based on the popular Japanese novel The Devotion of Suspect X and that the makers had taken the official adaptation rights to make it in Tamil. The film also stars Ashima Narwal, Nassar and Guru Somasundaram among others. Simon King, whose work was appreciated in last year’s thriller Sathya, has composed the music and his background score in the teaser has already earned a lot of recognition.
Meanwhile, Vijay Antony has two more projects in his kitty. He has an action-thriller titled Agni Siragugal with Moodar Koodam director Naveen. The film, produced by T. Siva of Amma Creations, also co-stars Arun Vijay, who will be sharing screen space with Vijay for the first time. Shalini Pandey plays the leading lady. Vijay also has a film titled Tamilarasan in the offing.
