A video of a newbie BJP politician taking Jayalalithaa’s phased prohibition stance head on is doing the rounds. In response to Jayalalithaa’s implementation of prohibition in stages, BJP member Jemela launched an attack on her stance being too late and hypocritical. Watch the video here.

Referring to the anti-liquor activist Sasi Perumal who died while protesting, she said, “If Amma had talked about prohibition, A Sasi Perumal would not have died. She was the one who killed him. On one hand the alcohol keeps flowing and people keep drinking, while women rip their thalis off, and here she is asking us to call her ‘Amma’.

This video, along with another video online, is getting massive traction online, with the videos being watched 1,61,000 times and shared 7,400 times.

A former AISMK women’s wing leader who recently joined the BJP, Jemela previously hit out at a sexist comment on her announcement of resigning from the AISMK. The leader had referred to the women of AISMK as ‘prostitutes’. Asking for the comment to be taken down in the next 24 hours, Jemela said she would press charges to set an example for male politicians not to take women for granted. AISMK is a party launched by actor-turned politician Sarathkumar, who is contesting on an AIADMK ticket in 2016 polls.
