How would you react if you saw a elderly man married to a teenage girl? Would you confront them or would rather choose to walk away? Here’s a video which shows how the people of New York reacted to a similar situation.
You-Tuber Coby Persin recently carried out a social experiment to see how people would react to child marriage.
In the video, two actors including a 65-year-old groom and a 12-year-old bride can be seen being photographed by Persin in Times Square. There is also a hidden camera which captures the reactions of the people around.
A woman comes up to them and asks the bride, “Where is your mom?” The man keeps repeating that he has taken permission from her parents for the wedding. The woman goes on to ask, “What are you doing with someone of this age?”
According to a UNICEF report from February 2016, one in four women worldwide were married before the age 18.
