The constituents of Chikkamangaluru’s Allampura lashed out at their legislator on Tuesday, Bharatiya Janata Party’s CT Ravi, demanding to know what he has done to help them since he was first elected in 2004.

In a couple of videos, which have now gone viral on social media, the people can be seen questioning him on the issues of water shortage and the lack of housing facilities for the poor.

In one video, a crowd is gathered around Ravi near an open storm water drain, through which the drinking water pipe is also routed.

“This pipe has burst and no one has fixed it. The sewage is getting mixed with drinking water. Who is going to fix it? How can we live when we get drinking water once in six days?” a constituent demands in the video.

When Ravi asks who supplies water to the residents, the locals can be seen getting visibly angry.

“No one is listening to our problems. We elected you, right? The promise was to construct houses for the poor. Where are the houses?” another resident can be seen questioning.

To this Ravi replies, “Make a list of the extremely poor people, I will make sure that they get houses in special category.”

This only seems to incense the crowd further and as angry murmurs begin to erupt, a visibly annoyed-looking Ravi then says, “Listen to what I have to say. You first listen to what I have to say and then you talk.”

Officials in the panchayat office in Allampura say that a water shortage and a lack of housing are the main problems in the village.

“The residents were unhappy and they wanted to know why Ravi had not used the MLA funds to help him. Every time a request is put forth, at the government level they make people run from pillar to post saying that the categories or schemes they have applied for is not right. The people were angry because Ravi had not helped them speed up the process,” an official said.
