Vetrimaaran’s Vada Chennai, which chronicles thirty years in the life of a gangster in North Madras will get two more parts to complete the trilogy. Apparently, the makers even shot 20 percent of the second part and are expected to resume shooting from the second half of next year after wrapping up Vetrimaaran’s fourth film with Dhanush.

The yet-untitled project, slated to go on the floors very soon, will be based on Tamil novel 'Vekkai', a revenge drama that traces the fight of an oppressed community against those oppressing them. Currently busy wrapping up his second directorial, Dhanush is expected to work on the new project with Vetrimaaran from next month.

Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Vada Chennai will get a prequel and it’ll be called Rajan Vagaira. Vetrimaaran has revealed in his interview to news agency IANS that he plans to make the prequel as a web series for a digital platform.

“We’d like to explore the prequel idea. I think it’d be best suited as a web series on some digital platform. The prequel will be called ‘Rajan Vagaira’, and it will track the rise of Rajan’s character in ‘Vada Chennai’ and how he built his empire.”

Vetri didn’t reveal when he plans to make the prequel or if he has already started work on the project. “I fell in love with Rajan’s character as I was writing. His is a very fascinating personality and at one point, I wanted to make a standalone film on Rajan. The prequel idea would do full justice to his character and give it more weight.”

Vada Chennai, which marks the third collaboration of Dhanush and Vetrimaaran, has emerged victorious at the box-office by already breaching into the Rs 50 crore club and continues to run to packed houses everywhere.
