A video that Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan had shared on social media recently created a lot of controversy, following which he has edited the post. The video featured him playing football with a bunch of kids and he had light-heartedly posted about one of the youngsters scoring a goal and faking an injury just as acclaimed footballer Neymar had done during the Football World Cup last year. The Brazilian footballer became a hot favourite of meme creators, however his fans were deeply saddened by Unni Mukundan’s idea of a joke.

Following this, the star edited the post and wrote, “Extremely saddened by the fact that a football post shared with you … has hurt the sentiments of fans and lovers of this highly talented footballer Neymar! Having received personal messages and calls asking for a clarification about the video posted, I have to make it clear that nothing posted online here was meant to demean the efforts of any sportsperson... being a lover of the sport and sportsmen alike.”

Unni is currently busy with a slew of films of which Mamangam is in the post-production mode. Made on a budget of Rs 50 crore, Mamangam began its production with debut director Sajeev Pillai wielding the megaphone. But due to creative differences with the producers, noted filmmaker M Padma Kumar was brought in by the filmmakers. The film is based on the fair that was celebrated from 850 AD to 1755 AD in which warriors from different parts of the Malabar region came together to wage battles to prove their courage and valour.

Starring Mammootty in the lead, the film will reportedly feature Unni as a warrior as well. The film has four heroines – Prachi Desai, Prachi Tehlan, Malavika Menon and Abhirami V Iyer – while others in supporting roles are Unni Mukundan, Neeraj Madhav, Sunil Sukhada, Meghanathan and Sohan Seenulal.

Ganesh Rajavelu aka Jim Ganesh is wielding the camera, M Jayachandran is scoring the music, Sreekar Prasad is in charge of the editing while Kaecha Khamphakdee is choreographing the stunts. The film is being bankrolled by Venu Kunnampilly under the banner Kavya Films.
