Two persons were arrested in Karnataka's Kalaburagi district after the gruesome murder of a 14-year-old boy, allegedly after he approached a girl living in a neighboring colony in his village and gave her a mobile phone.

The arrested persons are Tarabi and Mehboobsab, the mother of the girl and her friend. The duo were charged under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Police officials confirmed that the boy Mahesh Kolli's nose and genitals were chopped off and his body was thrown in the river in a sack.

The dead body of the boy was found in the Bhima River, a few kilometres away from his village - Naribol - on February 27. By then, he was missing from his home for five days. Mahesh is a student of a government school in Naribol village.

"There was no communal issue in the village. There was a personal issue that came up between them. We were told that the boy gifted her a phone and had approached her before this murder took place," a police official said.

The police official said that the mother of the girl had tried to stop the boy from approaching her daughter. But after they continued to talk frequently, Mehboobsab, the mother's friend whisked the boy away on February 22 in the pretext of talking to him.

The boy was missing for five days before his dead body was found in a sack in the Bhima River.

Kalaburagi SP Simi Mariam George confirmed the arrests made in the case and said that the duo were charged with murdering the boy. An FIR was registered at the Jewargi police station in the district in connection with the murder.
