Officials of the Telangana Excise department nabbed two final year students pursuing their BTech at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, on Wednesday and seized five blots of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) from them.
The students were identified as Y Ramesh and G Dwijj, with police saying that they were placing orders on the Darknet, and the drugs were being delivered by post.
“The drugs were delivered to one of the student’s house in Kothapet in Hyderabad. Based on specific information, the duo was nabbed in Warangal and LSD was seized from them. They are selling the LSD blots at Rs 2,000 per blot and were also sending them to other cities also,” Excise Deputy Commissioner (Warangal Division), R Suresh, told PTI.
The PTI report adds that Excise officials were identifying the customers of the students, and two cell phones and one laptop were recovered.
The duo later confessed to the crime, officials said.
In July, Excise officials busted a sensational racket, and found that about 1,000 students of leading private schools and colleges in the city were using high-end drugs such as LSD and MDMA. Some of them were as young as 13.
The officials said that Calvin Mascarenhas, said to be the kingpin of the racket, was placing orders on the Darknet, and the drugs were being delivered by couriers, including from overseas.
The racket also exposed the dark underbelly of Tollywood, as the dealers were also supplying drugs to several personalities from the Telugu industry.
Officials later said that a lot of the drugs were delivered to rich customers, at these pubs and bars, under the cover of darkness, and loud music. This included several Tollywood personalities.
